RACER CRUISER WINNER:

simple and complicated boat at once. It has everything a regatta sailor wants but enough comfort for easy touring. The standard of the equipment is very high. How many boats have lithium batteries and carbon masts as standard? Jochen Rieker, YACHT, GER This is as French an offshore racer as it can possibly can get – bold, powerful, light, innovative and even a bit complicated on deck. But the Dehler 30 od is an all-German affair, testament to the fast growing love- affair with solo and doublehand racing this side of the River Rhine. In a tightly packed market segment the Judel/Vrolijk design represents the outer end: carbon mast and carbon- reinforced hull structure, water- ballast, outriggers, retractable prop drive – Dehler stopped just short of foils on this one-design project. While the 30 od looks demanding she proved to be quite straight-forward during seatrials. Her twin rudders allow you to push her hard without risking involuntary jibes. Speeds easily reach double-digits. She is like a pair of sneakers that fit so well they just make you want to go out and have fun. Loic Madeline, Voiles & Voiliers, FRA If you wanna go racing offshore solo onboard a fast downwind boat you should have a look at this Dehler. It’s got all you want and a bit more. Huge sail area, lots of control lines, flat water section and twin rudders, water ballast and carbon mast. You will have plenty of things to play with from the outriggers for the gennaker sheet to the retractable propeller shaft. Do not event think to ask for an IRC /ORC certificate, you are not here to compare

with more classical designs but to have fun on this big mini-transat you can sail single or double-handed. German de Soler, Nautica y Yates, ESP The new Dehler is looking impressively – an extreme design focused on competition with shorthanded crew, in solo or double, with a deck where nothing reigns but trimming and sailing fast. With water ballast, carbon rig with large square top main and a gennakuer of almost 100 m2, the skipper at the helm should know very well what to do although the 30 od is very stable, balanced and manoeuvrable. Despite being spartan the interior is well finished, allowing the crew to sleep on the boat during delivery and racing. Toby Hodges, Yachting World, GBR This is a very well executed concept, one with up to date looks in an appealing, versatile design. The Dehler is a stiff and responsive sportsboat for two-handed racing, solo or fully crewed events and will give fun for all aboard. I like the amount of control lines and ability to actively trim, but found it a little cluttered in the cockpit. Lori Schüpbach, Marina.CH, SUI The expectations of the new, small racer from Hanseyachts were already enormous before the presentation of the Dehler 30 OD. The declared goal: to continue the company’s own history and to play an important role on international regatta circuits. Project manager Kalle Dehler and the design office Judel/Vrolijk & Co put a lot of effort into this project and finally presented a concept that included some remarkable details. For example,

a shaft with a fixed-wing propeller which disappears completely into the underwater hull during sailing and is covered flat by a hatch. Or the versatile trimming possibilities for the different headsails as well as for the square top mainsail – here the inspiration from the big racing yachts of the IMOCA class is clearly visible. Or the 200 litres of water ballast that can be pumped from one side to the other in less than a minute. The big question with all these features: Is the Dehler 30 OD also sailable for a wider audience? Joakim Hermansson, BåtNytt, SWE The German yard has put a lot of effort and company prestige in this breath- taking one-design raceboat, offering not only a huge number of control lines in the cockpit, but also a water ballast system. Everything has been made to gain as much performance as possible, and my only concern is that the German engineers may have put too many complicated functions in the boat. Nevertheless it delivers great sailing fun! Alberto Mariotti, Vela e Motore, ITA The new Dehler represents the welcome return of the shipyard to the race world. The 30od is a nice interpretation of a small and innovative boat for offshore regattas with single crew or doublehand. Beyond racing it’s also suitable to a few cruises where a little spirit of adaptation is required due to the tight spaces. The cockpit is dense (perhaps a bit too much) with lines and controls, some of which are not ideal ergonomically, especially the backstay. But in general the boat is fast, technical, fun to sail and well built.

UDVALGTE CITATER FRA DEN INTERNATIONALE JURY

Pasi Nuutinen, Vene, FIN Dehler has managed for innovation to meet practicality in a huge challenge: a boat that should be a near-extreme racer for crew as well as for singlehanded sailors. The rig is well adjustable for a wide choice of sails and there are no weak sectors in Dehler’s chart of wind directions. Hitting the spirit of time, this is a boat for those, who want to maximise the feeling under sails, instead the time spent on water. Roland Duller, YachtRevue, AUT As the appeal of shorthanded racing grows steadily, the Dehler 30 od is the right boat at the right moment. She is an extreme and innovative sailing machine that moves softly and powerful. Axel Nissen-Lie, Seilmagasinet, NOR Dehler surprises with a fast 30-footer who screams for sailing, a boat for the future. The wind was light during my trials but it was still very much fun. I felt I could stay on forever, sailing on all night. Dehler has taken a radical step. For a boat like this to work the weight must be kept down. They clearly have. The Dehler 30 od is both a
