EUROPE AN YACHT OF THE Y E AR 2020

in coastal waters and offshore. The whole project is the result of free thinking: fresh, bold, different. The boat marks the entry- level into Nautor’s fabulous ClubSwan range that is about to break new ground soon. But don’t underestimate her potential. This 36-footer will rip the oceans. And even in light wind her performance is jaw-dropping. When she begins to plane around 9 knots of boat speed you seriously feel like flying on a magic carpet – so effortlessly the acceleration, so silent the water exiting her wide, flat transom. Loic Madeline, Voiles & Voiliers, FRA The innovation lies in the design of the boat. The rig is impressive with a mast very far aft wich you can bend a lot. But what’s really new is the curved foil that you rotate to use it more or less outside the boat. As soon as can get to 8-9 knots of speed you feel the boat is getting lighter and lighter and you can easily go faster than the wind when you go downwind with the gennaker. The building is very stiff, there is a lot you can trim. Maybe you need a few pros on-board and this toy might be a bit expensive for a 36 footer with no accommodation and no headroom either. But there is so much you have to learn when you embark the ship that you do not want do step down. German de Soler, Nautica y Yates, ESP Surely the monotype that brings the most innovation to the world of racing this year. The ClubSwn 36 really is a special sailboat that is located in a very narrow niche market, both in terms of price as of the

program that calls for some experienced crew to get the best out of her. This design by Juan K will not leave anybody indifferent. Marinus van Sijdenborgh, Zeilen, NED A sportsboat without being aggressive, a very fast boat without bragging about it. Living up to the expectations because the predicted results are met with subtle ease. Class without showing off, but nonetheless very powerful. The boat is well constructed to a narrow specification and is a sportsboat different from any other. In order to sail closer to the wind, the crew will have to point the bow way down. Over 8 knots of boatspeed the foil kicks in and draws the boat to windward. Downwind it creates vertical lift to make for a silky smooth and very fast ride. The retractability of the C-foil even lets you sail at high speeds in very light winds. A new dimension in excellent sailing. Toby Hodges, Yachting World, GBR To my mind, this is the coolest looking production yacht afloat and the most fun to sail – in both directions! Why would an owner-driver even consider a TP52 or Fast 40 when you could have a sportster like this for so much less? Even without the foil (which still needs some working out), this is the most exciting boat – bravo Swan for doing something radically different, once again. Lori Schüpbach, Marina.CH, SUI The new ClubSwan 36 looks like a radical racer, in some way even resembling the hull lines of one of the latest Imoca 60 – which is not really surprising

since the Argentinean designer Juan Kouyoumdjian is behind the yacht. The outstanding feature is the so-called C-Foil, which is made of one piece and can be rotated to each side in a closed system. On an upwind course, the ClubSwan 36 is virtually «pulled» to windward if boat speed exceeds 8 to 9 knots, thus achieving an incredible VMG. To be able to exploit the technical finesse of the yacht, however, a great deal of know-how is required on board: in regatta use, an experienced crew of six to seven people is needed. Joakim Hermansson, BåtNytt, SWE From the spaceship-like design lines and the impressively sturdy C-foil, to the stunning performance and the distinct dinghy impression at the helm, this truly extravagant racing machine leaves you with a must-have-feeling only obstructed by the price-tag. Alberto Mariotti, Vela e Motore, ITA A racer that excites at first glance. At the helm the sensations are wonderful, similar to those of a great dinghy, with powerful and immediate acceleration. The first times upwind can be counter- intuitive because it must be sailed with a target heeling angle of 21 ° to make the most of its water lines, but you get used to it quickly, also because it’s always easy at the helm. The foil, starting to work from 8plus knots of boatspeed , develops a lift capable of reducing the wetted surface and the typical leeway of ”normal” sailing boats. A new interpretation of the foil concept applied to a monotype racing boat.

UDVALGTE CITATER FRA DEN INTERNATIONALE JURY

Roland Duller, YachtRevue, AUT This boat is an important input regarding the future of sailing. I was impressed by the upwind performance and her movement when going downwind. Axel Nissen-Lie, Seilmagasinet, NOR ClubSwan 36 is a radical sports boat and sails like a multihull racer. The yard has a well-developed concept. A trimmable rig reduces the number of sails, a wise decision. It is a spectacular boat that calls for going out racing. ClubSwan 36 is IRC and ORC ready, which makes it possible to sail more than just one-design races. With the ClubSwan 50 Nautor has proven they know about one-design classes and the new 36-footer has everything needed to copy the success. Jochen Rieker, YACHT, GER Radical hull shape, powerful, strongly trimmable rigg, retractable C-foil – this is a trademark Juan K design. Despite the size and prize of the ClubSwan 36 consider her a sportsboat, like a modern, grown-up, souped- up version of the Melges 24 – built for one-design racing
