De to

love tiller steering, but the test boat was upgraded to dual wheels. Jochen Rieker, YACHT, GER It’s quite difficult to get a relatively small cruising yacht so right. But that is exactly what Beneteau managed to do with the Oceanis 30.1. Despite her relatively narrow hull she offers plenty of space down below with an owners’ cabin forward worthy of a previous generation 35 footer. In fact she feels so grown-up that you begin to fault her for limited storage space in the saloon and galley – which of course is unfair. There are, after all, the physical confinements at 9 meters of length. Sailing is a doodle. The 30.1 handles so easily you can steer her blindfolded. And she is relatively quick, too. Any downsides? Well, in a way: Her base price looks very attractive, and it is. But once you start ticking boxes on the long options list you can easily end up in 6-digit-territory. Loic Madeline, Voiles & Voiliers, FRA What a good news: Here is a brand new nine meter boat from a very big yard. And this boat is quite roomy and still a good sailing boat. It is far too late for me now but I would really have aprecciated to sail my first family cruise with such comfort and performance. A nice affordable Oceanis to begin with. German de Soler, Nautica y Yates, ESP Ease and simplicity of maneuver, a comfortable and ergonomically well- designed cockpit, multiple options to fit all sailing programs and a lot of interior volume are added, in this real family cruiser, to a fast hull and a balanced rig, to which the two blades of the rudder give

reassuring course stability and a good response to the wheel. In sum, an entry- level cruising sailboat at a good price, very well finished, really easy to operate, responsive and sensitive. Marinus van Sijdenborgh, Zeilen, NED The smallest of the series proves to be a straight and well balanced boat. It has lots of space – and space brings comfort – for a cruiser of this length. The roomy interior makes the Oceanis stand out of the proverbial crowd. The reduced beam and shallow keel options, combined with the possibility of a yard-installed mast lowering system creates a versitile boat. The comfort that was previously exclusive to larger yachts and the ease that comes with the smaller ones, all come together in one boat that is in reach of almost every cruising sailor. Affordable, predictable in its response and easy to handle. Toby Hodges, Yachting World, GBR Credit to Beneteau for addressing the entry-level market with a modern, easy- to-handle, spacious and affordable 30ft cruiser. Polish build helps keep the price low, a clever hull shape buys volume, the cockpit and rig design help make it easy to sail, while an options list that includes four different keels provides versatility. Lori Schüpbach, Marina.CH, SUI With the new Oceanis 30.1 the French industry leader is setting an exclamation mark in the entry-level class. The hull width of less than 3 metres is also a convincing argument, especially on inland waterways. The hull design originates from Finot/Conq and is based on the larger sisters: The curvature in the underwater area is interrupted

by striking chines – thus the hull gains maximum volume without becoming extremely wide. The protruding stern also provides generous space. For example, the compartment under the starboard bench seat in the cockpit is a real joy to behold: everything that is needed on deck can really be stowed away here. Joakim Hermansson, BåtNytt, SWE Finally the world’s largest yard has developed a new family cruiser in a reasonable dimension, for newcomers and downsizers who like sailing as much as they love to have that extra bit of comfort onboard. This French 30-footer offers a spacious inside, with the same berthing capacity as many considerably larger sailing boats, in combination with sailing capacities that put a constant smile on the faces of the helmsman and his crew. Alberto Mariotti, Vela e Motore, ITA An appreciable move by the French group that brings attention back to smaller boats. An important and pleasing signal, also because the new Oceanis does not appear to be a secondary level model: In fact, it incorporates the style and design of the bigger models in the range. Among its strengths are the dimensions of the aft locker, accessible from the right bench of the cockpit, and those of the bathroom. The helmsman could suffer from a lack of space behind the steering wheels. But overall the 30.1 is an ideal boat to start a long life under sails.

UDVALGTE CITATER FRA DEN INTERNATIONALE JURY

Pasi Nuutinen, Vene, FIN It’s a joy just to see an entry-level, compact-sized family cruiser presented by a major Boat Yard. She is a success in combining good level of modern living comfort with enjoyable touch and feel of sailing pleasure. And then she’s more, because of her wide variety of choices in keels, rigging and equipment. This multifaceted little gem is safe bet for people’s favorite in next many years. Roland Duller, YachtRevue, AUT Beneteau has done a good job to make the smallest boat in the Oceanis fleet interesting for sailing on the sea and on lakes. She is well built, has a good value for money, modern hull, innovative sail plan and liveable interior. Axel Nissen-Lie, Seilmagasinet, NOR Beneteau has created a compact family boat that is cool, smart and well- liked. In today’s market a 30-footer is a small boat. But with good solutions the designers have managed to create a boat with as much space as the 34-footer from the 80s below deck but far larger cockpit. A yacht of this size is easy to handle while the smaller size gives an increased sensation of speed. This is an easy and fun boat. I
